When you move into your new house, one of the things that you are probably going to want to do is create your own landscape. Landscaping is about more than just what kind of flowers you want, it also includes everything like what kind of lights you may want to have lining your footpath, what kind of gravel or mulch you want in your flower beds, and what kind of borders you want around your flower beds or paths. You can do all of that designing on your own if you want. But, there are some things that you can do to make it easier.
Use Graph Paper
Go to the store and buy yourself some graph paper. Using that graph paper, you are going to draw a schematic of your yard. That includes where your house, driveway, and any paths are located. A basic schematic will make it much easier for you to visualize your space so you can see the area you are working with. There are a couple of reasons to use graph paper. One is that the lines make it easier to draw the schematic. The other is that if you are going to draw everything to scale, which isn't necessary, the graph paper makes it easier to do.
Take Your Time
You don't want to rush right into setting up your landscaping. Take your time to be sure of what you want. You may want to use a copier to make several copies of your schematic so that you can rearrange things as many times as you want and keep each iteration of your design.
Take Some Pictures
When you see something you like, snap a picture of it. Snap pictures of particular garden designs that you like or flowers at stores. Taking the pictures will give you something to refer to and will help you remember the flower or design. If you don't know the proper name, you can also use those pictures to show an employee at a nursery and they can help you find the flower or plant you are looking for. You can also print out flowers from the Internet and cut out pictures from magazines or newspapers. All these things will make it easier for you to find exactly what you want for your own landscape design.
Creating your yard from scratch can take some time, but it is possible for you to come up with a landscaping design you like.
