Many people want to have a stylish entertainment area in their backyard, but do not have a lot of money to spend on a deck or patio. You can create a lovely outdoor entertainment area on your own with small pea gravel. Use the guide below to learn how to create your one-of-a-kind entertainment area.
Decide Where You Want the Space to be Located
The first thing you need to do is decide where you want the entertainment area to be located in your yard. You want to be sure to choose an area that is somewhat level. This will ensure that everyone can relax comfortably in the entertainment area.
Decide How Large You Want the Space to Be
Next, you need to determine how large you want the entertainment space to be. Measure and mark the ground with stakes or sticks to annotate where you want the edges of the space to start and stop.
Remove Grass from the Area
Next, you need to use a flat-edged shovel to shovel out the grass from the soil. Press the edge of the shovel diagonally into the ground an inch or two below the top of the soil. Press the shovel forward diagonally, and you should be able to remove the grass and roots from the ground with ease. Repeat the process until all of the grass has been removed from inside of the area you marked with the stakes.
Create a Border Around the Space
Next, you want to be sure to create a border around the edge of the space so that the pea gravel does not end up spreading into your yard. This will keep you from slinging rocks all over the place when you mow the lawn near your entertainment space. You can use railroad ties, paving stones, or even bricks to create the border.
Fill the Space with Pea Gravel
Next, you want to fill the space with pea gravel. You can buy the pea gravel in individual bags of twenty to fifty pounds, but the best way to get the pea gravel you need for the lowest price possible is to buy it by the truck bed load. Go to your local nursery or landscaping supply store with a truck and have them fill your truck bed with the pea gravel. You can then go home and use the shovel to spread it into your new entertainment space.
Once the gravel is in place, add comfortable outdoor furniture to the space. Consider putting a small fire pit in the center of the entertainment area for everyone to enjoy on cool nights. The space is made from inexpensive materials that are designed to be able to stand up to wear and tear so the entertainment area looks as great as it can for as long as possible.
